The application of automobile oil during maintenancehas become highly frequent. In addition to protecting engine and reducing oil change frequency, high –quality lubricating oil can also help reducing gasoline consumption. Attention should be paid to the vehicle failures caused by improper use of lubricating oil. “Improper” use generally originates from the following four “misunderstandings” for the oil:

1: Add lubricating oil as much as possible
The amount of lubricating oil should be properly controlled between upper and lower scale mark of oil level gauge since excessive amount will enter combustion chamber via the clearance between cylinder and piston, forming carbon deposit. Such carbon depositwill improve engine compression ratio, increase the probability of detonation; hot heat carbon deposit in the cylinder is prone to cause preignition, and carbon deposit falling into a cylinder will aggravate cylinder and pistonwear, also accelerate lubricating oil pollution.Secondly, excessive lubricating oil would increaseagitation resistancefor crankshaft connecting rod, causing higher fuel consumption.

2: Lubricating oil should be changed only when it turns black.
This view is not comprehensive. Darkening oils, for lubricating oil without lubricant detergent, would truly demonstrate serious deterioration, while the oils for modern vehicles are generally provided with lubricant detergent. Such detergents will adhere to the film on piston, washed together with black carbon deposit and dispersed in the oil, causing reduced amount of sediments in engine under high temperature. Lubricating oil after use of a certain period, therefore, would easily become dark when they have not completely deteriorated.

3: Lubricating oil is frequently added but not replaced.
It is correct to regularly check lubricating oil, while oil addition other than oil replacement can only make up engine oil, failure to improve its performance loss. Lubricating oil during use would decline in quality due to pollution, oxidation and other reasons, and also in quantity due to consumption.  

4: Additives are very useful.
Trulyhigh-quality lubricating oil is a finished product that would provide multiple protection for engine, contains multiple additives, including anti-wear agent. The balanced formula guarantees the performance. Unauthorized addition of other additives would not provide additional protection for vehicles, but to cause downgraded comprehensive performance of the oil since the additives added will react with chemical substances in engine oil.
